Does This Sound Familiar?

Your dog is amazing at home...

Then you step outside and everything changes.

Maybe they:

• Freeze in unfamiliar places

• Become overwhelmed by people, dogs, or noises

• Bark or react to everything around them

• Struggle to focus outside the house

• Appear nervous, anxious, or constantly on edge

• Seem unable to settle in public

The truth is, your dog isn't being stubborn.

They're simply struggling to process a world that feels overwhelming.

Turning Training Into Real-World Success

Imagine being able to take your dog anywhere with confidence — walks, parks, cafés, busy environments — without feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or constantly managing unwanted behaviour.

Real Life K9 Skills is designed to help dogs and owners build practical everyday reliability through calm guidance, real-world exposure, and clear communication that actually transfers outside the home.

  • Building neutrality around dogs and people

  • Confidence through exposure and guidance

  • Engagement and handler focus

  • Understanding arousal and behaviour patterns

  • Place work and impulse control

  • Polite manners and calm behaviours

  • Loose lead walking foundations

  • Reliable everyday obedience skills

This isn’t just another obedience class — it’s practical training for real life.

Real Life K9 Skills helps dogs develop calm behaviour, confidence, and better decision-making around everyday distractions, while giving owners the tools and guidance to build a stronger, more reliable relationship wherever life takes them.

Why Dogs ‘Forget’ Their Training Outside The Home

CLASS STYLE: Structured 1 hour classes

SUITABLE FOR: All breeds, Any behaviours, 6 months or older

FOCUS: Respectful manners and calm confidence

TRAINER SUPPORT: Practical coaching and guidance

Truths Behind The Behaviour

  •   Your dog isn’t trying to embarrass you.

  •   Most dogs are only taught behaviours in low-distraction environments — then expected to apply them in busy real-world situations.

  •   Different environment. Different stimulation. Different emotional state.

  • That’s why dogs who listen perfectly at home can suddenly struggle at the park, on walks, around other dogs, or in busy public spaces.

  •   Real Life K9 Skills helps bridge that gap by teaching dogs how to stay calm, connected, and responsive around real distractions — not just inside the house.

Is This The Right Fit For Your Dog?

Ideal for owners who:

  • Feel like their dog is perfect at home but struggles in public

  • Want calmer walks and less overstimulation

  • Need help with focus around distractions

  • Want practical training they can actually use in everyday life

  • Are looking to build confidence, structure, and connection with their dog

Why Owners Choose Disaster to Delight

More Than Dog Training

Real Life K9 Skills isn't about creating robots or chasing perfection.

Helping everyday dogs succeed in the real world isn't about teaching endless commands. It's about understanding behaviour, building trust, creating clarity, and helping both dogs and owners develop the skills they need to navigate life together.

At Disaster to Delight Dog Training, every class is designed with real families and real challenges in mind. Whether your dog struggles with distractions, excitement, confidence, or simply listening outside the home, you'll receive practical guidance, personalised coaching, and support that extends beyond a training field.

Because training shouldn't just work in class.

It should work on your walks, at the park, when visitors arrive, and in the moments that matter most.

  • Yes, these classes can be suitable for reactive or nervous dogs, however this will depend on the individual dog’s current behaviour, threshold levels, and comfort in a group environment. We always prioritise safety, welfare, and emotional regulation. In some cases, a short assessment or preparation support may be recommended before joining group sessions to ensure the experience is positive and productive for both dog and handler.

  • Dogs can join from 6 months of age and older, depending on their development, maturity, and readiness for a group learning environment. Puppies transitioning into adolescence are often ideal candidates, as this is a key stage for building calm behaviour, focus, and real-world manners.

  • We use a holistic, balanced training approach that considers the dog’s emotional state, learning style, and real-world environment. Training focuses on clear communication, structure, relationship building, and understanding behaviour from the dog’s perspective. The goal is always to support the dog’s wellbeing while building practical life skills that translate into everyday situations.

  • No prior training experience is required. A basic understanding of lead handling is helpful, but not essential. If you are completely new to training, we recommend starting with an Everyday Exposure 1:1 session to build foundational handling skills and confidence before joining group classes. This ensures both you and your dog get the most out of the program from the start.

  • Every dog is different, and we understand that some may feel overwhelmed in a new environment.

Classes are structured with a strong focus on safety, space management, and reading individual dog body language. If your dog is struggling, we may adjust the difficulty, increase distance from triggers, or modify exercises so they can still learn without being pushed past their threshold.

In rare cases where a group setting isn’t the right fit, we will discuss alternative options such as private sessions or a staged reintroduction into group work.

Our goal is never to “push through,” but to set dogs up for success at their individual level.
